The culinary community of La Antigua Guatemala is ready to show off its magnificent talent when the eighth annual edition of the Sacatepéquez Gastronomic Festival arrives this month. It includes the participation of many culinary virtuosos from the cities and villages of the departamento.
Thanks to the efforts of the Municipal Government of La Antigua Guatemala, the Sacatepéquez Committee for Sustainable Tourism, INTECAP, INGUAT, and the Centro de Formación de la Cooperación Española, you can savor some of the most important dishes from the cuisine and culture of Guatemala.
The festival’s purpose is to preserve traditional Guatemalan recipes, and in particular, those that are originally from the Antigua Guatemala region.
The Festival brings some of the aldeas in the municipio together, to participate in the preparation of the dishes like: pepián, mole, rellenitos, chuchitos, estofado, piloyada, horchata, chinchivir, various sweets, and much more. The dishes compete in categories such as Appetizers, Main Course, Desserts, and Beverages; and will be carefully evaluated by a group of professional chefs.
You don’t want to miss the chance to try over 30 chapín delicacies– including sweets, beverages, and desserts–, as well as dishes that have been officially designated as part of the Cultural and Historical Heritage of Guatemala. Entrance to the event is free for all ages.
The festival will be held on Sunday July 16th, in the plaza in front of the Centro de Formación de la Cooperación Española (CFCE), at the corner of 4a Calle Poniente and 6a Avenida Norte (MAP D4) starting at 10 AM.
